Relax at the SA Cheese Festival with Versus Wines
Lovers of wine brands Welmoed and Versus can expect to sample their favourite tipple at the 10th annual SA Cheese Festival, this year hosted at a brand-new venue.
Cheese lovers are expected to descend on Sandringham, just off the R44 between Stellenbosch and the N2, from 29 April to 2 May for this popular festival. Visitors can look forward to a vast array of cheese, oysters, olives and braaivleis to suite every taste, and of course, Versus and Welmoed will be there to wash down the nibbles.
“We have been involved with this festival for many years now,” says Corné Oosthuizen, Brand and Business Development Manager: SA and SADC for the company of wine people™. “It’s such a jovial family festival. We can’t wait to be involved again.”
As most epicureans will know, wine is one of the best known partners for cheese delights. Versus Wines, which aligns itself with unusual, fun and interesting events will have a wide variety of styles to complement the various cheeses. Try a sip from their uncomplicated Naturally Sweet range of White, Rosé or Red with a tangy chevin, or if a drier style is preferred, match their Original Range to your favourite cheese.
For the traditionalist, a glass of carefully crafted Welmoed should go well with some of the bolder, more intensely flavoured cheeses. Their range of single variety vintages includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz.
* Please enjoy our wines responsibly. Not for sale to persons under legal drinking age. For more information about the Cheese Festival, visit http://www.cheesefestival.co.za.

Weird World Cup Stats
With my football fever reaching fever pitch I investigated a bit to find some weird World Cup stats
The first World Cup was held in 1930 and is held every four years. (It wasn’t held in 1942 and 1946 because of World War II.) Brazil has won a record five World Cup titles, and Brazilian Ronaldo holds the individual record for most World Cup goals with 15. But there are some other facts that aren’t as well-known about the World Cup:
1) The first goal
The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. Many believed American Bart McGee scored the first goal in the World Cup, against Belgium in the 40th minute. But a dispute erupted and FIFA determined the first goal was scored by Frenchman Lucien Laurent in the 19th minute against Mexico on July 13, 1930.
2) The first Red Card
The red and yellow card system was not introduced until the 1970 World Cup. The first player to receive a red card was Chile’s Carlos Caszely in 1974 in a match against West Germany in the 67th minute.
3) Youngest Player
The youngest player to play in a World Cup match was Northern Ireland’s Norman Whiteside against Yugoslavia in 1982. He was 17 years, 41 days old.
4) Largest Attendance
The highest attendance for one match was in the 1950 final. The official attendance was 199,854 for the match between Brazil and Uruguay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
5) Most Consecutive First-Round Eliminations
Scotland holds the record with eight: 1954, 1958, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1998
6) Most cards in a match
20 Cards – 16 yellow and 4 red cards in the 2006 “Round of 16” match between Portugal and the Netherlands

Unconventional Travel Tips
Travel writer Chuck Thompson buried unconventional travel tips in his memoir Smile When You’re Lying. According to the Rogue Traveller you will make your trip more enjoyable if you follow these tips. Being an unconventional wine brand, the folks at Versus wines agree with most of these travel tips.
Chuck Thompson’s unconventional travel tips:
Steal An Extra Inch Of Legroom
All that junk airlines cram into seatback pockets? Throw it out. You don’t need magazines and promotional garbage. Chuck everything—except the barf bag—into the overhead bin and enjoy a free extra inch of legroom.
Eat A Meal Before You Board
It’s not like they’ll serve you free food onboard, so swing by a restaurant on your way to the airport and fill up. Or at least grab some fruit before you board.
Resurrect Dead Batteries
Rub dead batteries briskly against your pant leg for a minute. The static generates a recharge that should last for an hour. May not work with iPods.
Don’t Be A Jackass
Look, they don’t know that you lied about the wedding and the deep-vein thrombosis, but they will notice if you’re That Guy, and employees will make it their mission to pay you back in full. Smile, say “thank you,” and have a pleasant attitude.
Bribe
Oh, this box of chocolates you got as a gift that you happen to be allergic to? Would you like them, Ms. Gate Agent who can get you out of the middle seat?
Apparently this form of bribery works if you’re smooth enough.
And gate agents do have extra seats, if you’re nice. On Boeing 767s, seats 17A B H and J are comfy coach spots reserved for the crew on international flights. On domestic flights, they stay open until right before boarding, along with business class and first class seats, and are given to traveling employees and gate agent favorites.
Tip Early
R50 on the first night of your stay goes a long way to saying you might give more later if they don’t spit on your toothbrush.
Pay Up
You’re on vacation, pay up. Don’t travel to the Caribbean and settle for anything less than an ocean view. Pay for the room, pay for the food, pay for the experience.
Ignore Jet Lag
It’s all in your head, whiner. Force yourself to adapt to the local time and walk off the sleepiness.
